1 injured as crashes tie up freeway

SAN CLEMENTE – Two crashes on the 5 freeway near the Cristianitos on-ramp sent one person to the hospital and blocked several lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Incidents were reported to the CHP at 6:20 a.m.

According to CHP officer Stottlemyer, a male driver approximately 25-30 years old was driving a black Toyota 4Runner, when for unknown reasons, hit the right curb and veered across all lanes.

He hit the center divider, rolled over, and came to rest in the No. 2 and 3 lanes just north of Cristianitos Road.

He was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Shortly after, a second collision occurred when a white Saturn hit the center divider after she veered to the left to avoid hitting the 4Runner, according to CHP officer Poyner.

The driver of the Saturn was not injured.

Four lanes were blocked. Lanes were clear by 7 a.m.
