2 Sentenced In Racing Crash That Killed Mom, Kids

Two men have been sentenced for the street racing deaths of a mother and her two children in El Monte two years ago.

The district attorney’s office says 20-year-old Robert Canizalez got 48 years to life in prison and Martin Morones received 45 years to life Wednesday in Pomona Superior Court.

A jury convicted the men in June of second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter.

Canizalez was also convicted of misdemeanor witness intimidation.

The two men were racing when both their cars ran a stop sign and smashed into a car in an intersection in October 2007.

The men lived in the same mobile home park as Dora Groce, and her children, 8-year-old Robert and 4-year-old Katherine, who died in the fiery crash.
