4-year-old injured by hit-and-run driver

ANAHEIM – Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck a 4-year-old boy and left him suffering from minor injuries.

Police got a call around 8:45 p.m. Friday regarding a hit-and-run accident in the 900 block of North Topeka Street and La Palma Avenue, said Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

Officers found a 4-year-old boy who had abrasions to his face. The boy, who was at his home, was taken to a hospital and released. Martinez said.

Moments before the accident, the boy was playing with friends across the street from his home, Martinez said. The group was going to cross the street to return home when they saw a car headed north on Topeka, Martinez said.

The 4-year-old boy and his 14-year-old sister crossed the street while four or five of their friends decided to wait until the car passed, Martinez said.

As the boy and his sister ran across the street, a car brushed the boy from the side, Martinez said.

The driver of the dark-colored sedan, possibly a Toyota, stopped and asked the children if they were OK, Martinez said. The girl told the driver to pull over, but he drove away, Martinez said.

The driver, who may face misdemeanor hit-and-run charges, was described as having dark skin, with a mustache and beard.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Anaheim Police Department 714-765-1861.
