51-year-old woman dies in motorcycle accident

“Kelly Reister was pronounced dead last night at Mission Hospital after Ortega Highway crash.”

A 51-year-old Mission Viejo woman is dead after she lost control of her motorcycle and crashed Sunday evening on Ortega Highway, authorities said today.
Kelly Reister was pronounced dead at 7:58 p.m. Sunday at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, according to the Orange County Coroner’s office.

California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada said police are looking into the possibility of drugs or alcohol being involved.

“For unknown reason, she lost control of the motorcycle. We do not know if any other party was involved,” Quesada said.

According to a CHP press release, Reister was traveling westbound on the Ortega Highway, approaching a sweeping left curve on the roadway. Reister, described as a novice rider, was driving at an estimated 35 miles per hour on a 2008 Harley Davidson.

Reister failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway, according to the release. Her motorcycle then veered to the right, striking a rock.

Reister was thrown from the motorcycle and landed on the roadway.

Quesada said they got a call at about 6 p.m. of a motorcyclist being down on Ortega Highway at Mile Marker 10. Reister was airlifted to Mission Hospital, Quesada said.
