6 hurt in crash in Seal Beach

Six people were injured Wednesday evening in a crash on Seal Beach Boulevard.
The three-car accident was reported on Seal Beach Boulevard at the I-405 freeway about 5:10 p.m., authorities said.

A family of four, including two children, and two other drivers were injured in the crash, Seal Beach police Sgt. Steve Bowles said. Two people had to be cut from a vehicle.

The three men, a woman and two girls were taken to hospitals, Bowles said. It wasn’t immediately clear if any of the injuries were life-threatening.

Based on the damage, two of the vehicles appear to have collided head-on and may have been traveling at high rates of speed, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Marc Stone said.

According to initial reports, one of the two vehicles apparently veered off and struck a third.

Two SUVs – a Ford Expedition and a Ford Explorer – along with a
pickup were involved in the crash, Bowles said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

Seal Beach Boulevard was closed in both directions to make way for rescue workers and investigators.

A multi-agency accident reconstruction team is investigating the crash.

Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to call officer Craig Jones at 562-799-4100, Ext. 1632.
