89-year-old hit by car, badly hurt

LOS ALAMITOS – An 89-year-old man is in critical condition after he was struck by a Honda Civic while he was crossing the street Thursday morning, authorities said.

The incident was reported to the Los Alamitos Police Department at about 6:51 a.m. on Orangewood Avenue and Los Alamitos Boulevard, said Los Alamitos police Capt. Bruce McAlpine.

Police identified the victim as Tzu Tseng Wang of Rossmoor.

According to McAlpine, Wang was in the crosswalk when a 60-year-old driver of a Honda Civic collided with him. Wang sustained multiple injuries to his head, hip, and legs, McAlpine said.

Wang was treated at the scene by the Orange County Fire Authority and was taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center where he remains in critical condition, McAlpine said.

McAlpine said the driver of the Honda was shaken by the incident but was not injured.

The Serious Traffic Accident Response Team comprised of traffic investigators from Cypress, Los Alamitos, and Seal Beach police departments are investigating the incident.

Los Alamitos police urges witnesses to call 562-431-2255, ext. 418.
