Audi slides 200 feet in crash, driver flees

LAGUNA BEACH – A black Audi crashed and slid on its roof for more than 200 feet before the driver got out and ran from the crash, authorities said.

The Audi clipped a Nissan Altima before flipping over Thursday night, and police are continuing to search for the hit-and-run driver Friday morning, said Sgt. George Ramos of the Laguna Beach Police Department.

The crash occurred Thursday night at 11:47 p.m., when the driver of the Audi tried to pass a semi-truck and a Nissan Altima while driving south on Coast Highway, near Oak Street.

The Audi changed lanes and accelerated to pass the two vehicles, but clipped the Altima as it tried to return to the lane, Ramos said.

The driver of the Audi lost control of the vehicle. It flipped and landed on its roof, sliding on the pavement for about 220 feet, Ramos said.

The male driver then got out of the car and ran away from the crash, he said.

No one was injured, but police are still looking for the driver who fled, he said. There were several witnesses to the crash.
