Bale of hay on freeway prompts chain-reaction crash
ORANGE A chain-reaction crash this morning occurred after a bale of hay fell out of a trailer.
Several vehicles stopped on the southbound 55 freeway at Collins Avenue after the hay fell out of the trailer. But one car, a Dodge sports sedan, did not stop, said California Highway Patrol officer Bill Rees.
The Dodge rear-ended a Toyota, which veered across lanes toward the shoulder and was then struck several times by other vehicles, Rees said. Five vehicles were involved in the incident.
The 10:15 a.m. incident briefly blocked the No. 1 lane, the CHP said.
