Bicyclist hit, killed on Highland road

A bicyclist was hit and killed on a Highland road this morning by a car full of teenagers, authorities said.

The collision happened just before 10 a.m. on Greenspot Road, east of the Iron Bridge.

A mid-sized sedan was driving west on Greenspot when the driver lost control and hit a dirt turnout before striking a male bicyclist pedaling east on the road.

“It appears the car spun out and struck the cyclist,” said sheriff’s Lt. Rick Ells.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor, he said.

While the sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team continues looking into the accident, officials have closed roads from Santa Paula Street east to Florida Street.

It is unclear when the roads will reopen
