Dog attack kills boy, 3

A 3-year-old Apple Valley boy died Saturday after he was attacked his family’s dog, officials said.

The dog was later shot by a San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy when it was aggressive toward the deputy and medical responders, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Beavers.

The boy, Omar Martinez, was pronounced dead at Saint Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, the San Bernardino County coroner’s office said.

It was not known what provoked the attack or if any adults were in the vicinity at the time, Beavers said.

She said it was too early to know if charges were being considered.
