Girl killed in Lake Forest accident

“9-year-old girl died instantly when she hit light pole, police said.”

A 9-year-old Lake Forest girl was ejected from an SUV and killed instantly Sunday when the vehicle in which she was a passenger spun out of control and hit a light pole, police said.

A BMV clipped a Chevy Tahoe in the rear as the vehicles were travelling west on El Toro near Pino at about 5:30 p.m., causing the Tahoe to spin out of control and hit a light pole. The 9-year-old girl was ejected from the Tahoe and also hit the light pole, said Larry Abbott of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

It appeared both vehicles were trying to change lanes. Both drivers tested below the legal limit for alcohol, and no road rage was involved, Abbott said.

The girl was in the Tahoe with her aunt and her aunt’s friend, who was driving, Abbott said.

The BMW’s driver was taken to the hospital with minimal injuries.
