A 28-year-old man died after crashing his pickup into a bridge pillar on the northbound 241 toll road Monday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

Jay Winters, from Anaheim, was driving his 2010 Chevrolet southbound on the 241 when he apparently struck a concrete pillar in the median just south of Bee Canyon at 11:17 a.m., authorities said.

No one else was in the car, and no other vehicles were involved, CHP Sgt. Michael Harris said.

Paramedics pronounced Winters dead at the scene.

It wasn’t immediately clear why Winters drove into the pillar, Harris said.

Authorities are investigating whether he had a health condition that could have contributed to the crash.
