Man rents truck, runs himself over
A 77-year-old Hemet man was killed Tuesday morning when a truck he rented to haul lumber ran him over in a store parking lot.
Kenneth Palmer had purchased lumber at Lowe’s Home Improvement Center in the 300 block of South Sanderson Avenue, Hemet police Lt. Duane Wisehart said in a news release.
He got out of the truck he had rented at Lowe’s, forgetting to put the gearshift in “park,” and the truck began rolling backward.
He tried to re-enter the moving truck but lost his balance and fell under the left front wheel and suffered fatal injuries, Wisehart said.
Palmer was pronounced dead at the scene.
