Motorcyclist hits guardrail, dies

A motorcyclist died Monday morning when he lost control of his 2006 Honda CBR-600RR and collided with a guardrail on eastbound Interstate 10, just east of Highland Springs Avenue in Banning, according to a CHP news release.

A witness reported that the motorcyclist was traveling 80 to 85 mph in the fast lane as he approached slower traffic, the release stated. He made an unsafe turn to the right and lost control, according to the release.

The eastbound slow lane was closed for about an hour after the 10:55 a.m. crash while CHP officers investigated.

The name of the 35-year-old Joshua Tree resident was not released pending notification of family.
