Motorist killed in fiery crash in Northridge

NORTHRIDGE — One motorist was killed early today in a fiery three-vehicle crash in the 10300 block of Reseda Boulevard, authorities said.

An SUV caught fire after colliding with two cars about 7:30 a.m. near Reseda and Devonshire Street, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

“Despite the quick response of Los Angeles firefighters, one occupant of the SUV was sadly beyond our help and declared deceased at the scene,” he said.

It was uncler whether the victim was the driver or a passenger in the SUV. Rescuers were using hydraulic equipment to search for other occupants, he said.

One of the cars involved in the crash overturned, coming to rest in the the parking lot of a nearby gas station, Humphrey said.

Another motorist involved in the crash was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition, Humphrey said. Two others declined medical treatment, he said.

Traffic was blocked at Devonshire and Reseda while the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division investigated.
