One killed in Mojave Desert wreck

One person was killed and two severely injured this morning during a wreck along Interstate 40 deep in the Mojave Desert between Barstow and Needles, according to the California Highway Patrol Web site.

“The freeway had to be shut down for a moment to land the air ambulances,” said Dispatch Supervisor Tim Franke, of the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

The wreck was reported at 4:16 a.m. along the eastbound lanes near Goffs Road.

Coroner’s investigators were summoned at 5:56 a.m.
