Overturned truck ties up 60 Freeway for most of the day

An overturned refrigerator truck blocked traffic most of the day Thursday on the 60 Freeway near Grand Avenue in Diamond Bar.

The truck tipped about 5:10 a.m. on the westbound 60 Freeway and blocked four lanes until 4 p.m., California Highway Patrol officials said.

Officers initially smelled ammonia, so a hazardous materials team was called to the scene, said Sgt. Brian Lee of the CHP’s Santa Fe Springs Office.

No hazardous chemicals were found, but officers and crews spent most of the day getting the truck off the freeway and cleaning up debris, Lee said.

No one was injured, Lee said.

There may have been a few other fender benders in the area, but Lee did not know if they were caused by the tipped truck.
