People in fatal 57 crash identified

A 22-year-old woman was killed and a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in a crash Sunday night on the southbound 57 transition road to the westbound 91, the California Highway Patrol said.

The woman, identified as Mai Hayakawa, from Diamond Bar, died at the scene of the crash.

According to the CHP, here’s how the crash happened:

Michael Keating, from Fullerton, was driving a 2003 Toyota Celica – earlier reported by police as a Camry – at an unknown high speed at 11:18 p.m. on the transition road and rapidly passed a semi-truck tractor in front of him. Keating attempted to pass the semi-truck using the right shoulder, the CHP said.

Because police say he was driving intoxicated and at a high speed, Keating lost control of the vehicle, the CHP says. The Celica veered across the transition, traveled down a sloping embankment, and struck a large palm tree.

A 22-year-old woman identified as Alyssa Unruh, from Anaheim, was also in the car and suffered minor injuries.

Keating sustained moderate injuries and was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving.
