Police think truck that hit, killed 71-year-old woman was racing

Police are asking for the public’s help in providing information about a street race that left a 71-year-old woman dead and a 19-year-old man in the hospital Thursday evening.

Santa Ana Sgt. Pete Bollinger said the unidentified 19-year-old was driving his 2005 Dodge Ram west on Edinger Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. and was alledgely racing a white Honda or Acura.

Bollinger said the woman, identified as Alberta Ricker, was headed southbound on Van Ness Avenue in her 2007 Mazda sedan when she enterted the intersection of Van Ness and Edinger to make a left turn onto Edinger.

“She was struck broadside by the Dodge and died on the scene,” Bollinger said.

Bollinger said the driver was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana for observation.
