Second female student attacked at UC Riverside

UC Riverside police are warning students to be alert after a second student was attacked.

The woman was jogging alone, listening to her iPod about 11:30 p.m. Monday when a man grabbed her from behind, pushed her to the ground and assaulted her, according to a university safety bulletin.

The attacker fled when a passer-by approached.

The victim could only describe the man as having light skin and hairy arms, the report stated.

This follows an attack on May 27 in which a student was talking on her cell phone and riding a scooter when a man jumped out of the bushes and on top of her. She was able to scream and fight him off. He left in a four-door dark gray or silver Acura with white “Moreno Valley” paper plates.

Police are cautioning students to walk in groups, avoid dark areas and not be distracted by cell phones or music. The school held a campus safety forum Wednesday.

Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call UC police Detective Mike Andert at 951-827-4603 or Riverside police Detective Linda Arnold at 951-353-7100.
