Several people injured in late-night, 5-car pileup

“Police say 1 person has major head trauma.”

HUNTINGTON BEACH – Several people were hurt in a five-car crash late Thursday night, police said.
One person is in critical condition with a head injury.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, Huntington Beach police responded a collision at Bolsa Chica Street and Heil Avenue.
A vehicle, driven by Louis Yates, 57, of Huntington Beach, reportedly failed to brake for stopped traffic at Heil and hit three vehicles, one of which hit another vehicle. Police did not immediately release the makes and models of the vehicles involved.

At least four people were hospitalized.

Yates and Mark Bouvier, 25, of Los Alamitos were both taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Yates was in critical and unstable condition with major head trauma. Bouvier also had a head injury, but was stable, police said.

Also hospitalized was Sarah Stephen, 24, of Los Alamitos, who was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana. She complained of pain but was stable, police said.

Lori Ingoglia, 47, of Huntington Beach, was treated and released for facial injuries. Police did not specify whether she was the fourth person hospitalized.

Police indicated that other motorists without life-threatening injuries were treated and released or kept for observation, although police reports did not say whether they were also taken to hospitals.
