A veteran Westminster motorcycle officer suffered minor injuries Friday afternoon after crashing with a car, police said.

The collision, reported to the California Highway Patrol at 12:03 p.m., occurred at 5772 Garden Grove Boulevard near the Los Alisos Mobile Home Estates.

The officer, whose name has not been released, was on-duty and riding his Honda police motorcycle eastbound on Garden Grove Boulevard when the driver of a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo pulled out from a driveway and into the path of the officer’s motorcycle, said officer Van Woodson with the Westminster Police Department.

The motorcycle collided with the car, causing the officer to fall to the ground, Woodson said.

Woodson said the officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to UCI Medical Center for routine observation.

The driver of the Aveo, Stephen Bierne, 66, from Westminster, was not injured.

No arrests have been made and alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the collision, police said.
