Witnesses to Fatal Foothill Ranch crash wanted

One of the two drivers involved in a fatal Sunday crash ran a red light, authorities said.

But despite several people who witnessed the crashed, only one has stepped forward to talk to officials.

Investigators are now asking for the public’s help.

“I know a bunch of people stopped,” said Deputy Wayne Howard of the Orange County Sheriff Department’s major accident reconstruction team.

The crash took place Sunday afternoon on Portola Parkway, near Lake Forest Drive.

Gregg Wiles, 51-year-old man from Foothill Ranch, was driving a Chrysler sedan when he crashed with a Nissan Altima. He was taken to Mission Hospital to be treated, but was pronounced dead about three hours later.

A 56-year-old woman from Foothill Ranch, who was driving the Altima, suffered minor injuries.

Howard said they believe one of the drivers ran a red light, but they are still trying to establish who.

Witnesses reported several people in the area at the time, including someone who was driving in a lane adjacent to Wiles and a bicyclist.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Wayne Howard at 949-425-1860.
