Containment percentage improves again for Skyline Fire near Corona

CORONA — The Skyline Fire south of Corona was 85 percent contained as of Sunday evening, as hundreds of firefighters for a fourth day battled the blaze now considered to be in patrol and mop-up status as it smolders, the Corona Fire Department said.

Firefighters expected to remain for the next several days improving lines of cleared vegetation around the blaze and putting out hot spots, officials said.

No one was hurt, and all evacuation orders were lifted Friday.

The fire was reported shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday in the area of Skyline Drive and Burrero Way, at the foot of the Cleveland National Forest, according to authorities.

The acreage affected by the fire was estimated Sunday night at 282 acres, up from 250 acres on Saturday due to better mapping, fire officials reported. The containment of 85 percent was up from 75 percent on Saturday night and 30 percent on Friday night.
