Eva Kilgore: Looking for a place to host a big party? Try Huntington Bay Club

by in News

How do you keep 250 guests well fed and entertained? If you live in Huntington Beach, make sure you book that large event at the Huntington Bay Club. It’s simply amazing.

I attended a wedding and birthday combination celebration there and was smiling from the time I arrived until I took those dancing shoes off at 11 p.m.

There are two floors at the Huntington Bay Club.

We started downstairs and inside with a ’70s band, passed appetizers (crab cakes, little lamb chops, sashimi served on edible spoons) and more. Then, we all went outside for dinner, catered by 24 Carrots. It was a beautiful presentation of stacked dates, filet mignon, shrimp, and vegetarian choices for those requesting them.

The venue overlooks Huntington Harbour — just gorgeous. After dinner, we all went upstairs and danced the night away to an ’80s band.

From start to finish, it was a perfect night.

Huntington Bay Club is at 4121 Warner Ave. near Pacific Coast Highway. Information: huntingtonbayclub.com or 714-840-4877.

New restaurant in town

Springdale Cafe is now open in Huntington Beach and after hearing a friend of mine rave about the food I went to check it out.

He enjoyed a big, flavorful burger with what he says are the best and crispiest fries in town. I ordered a tuna melt with jack cheese and raw onions on buttery sourdough toast —. delicious. The owner, Anthony Sorn, made it in a jiffy and brought it to the table. It came with a big, juicy sliced beefsteak tomato (nice surprise) in the sandwich. Very good.

Next time, I am going for that burger and fries.

Also, ask about the $5.99 lunch specials for Marina High School students. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Springdale Cafe is at 25752 Springdale St. near Edinger Avenue. Hours: 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday; 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Information: 714-248-9346.

Impeccable, perfection — Watertable

I joined a group of 13 friends and relatives for a wonderful dinner on the patio at Watertable. From the moment we sat down, our water glasses were filled, then refilled again and again throughout the dinner. Service was impeccable.

The sunset was beautiful, and so was the menu.

What to choose? I opted for the Pan Seared Scallops. Perfection. $20. My daughter and I shared the large Wedge Salad dressed with Green Goddess. We ate it all.

We also ordered Fried Squash Blossoms with a nut and red pepper-based romesco sauce and truffle. Light, crispy and, in a word, incredible. I have to add that the bread was so, so good. It’s served hot and fresh in a bag. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Watertable is in the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa, at 21500 Pacific Coast Highway near Main St. Information: 714-845-4776.
