Firefighters hold Holy fire line overnight, containment at 59 percent

Firefighters were able to hold the Holy fire line overnight, keeping the wildfire’s burned acreage at 22,986 and containment at 59 percent, Cleveland National Forest officials announced on Twitter Tuesday.

The fire, first sparked Aug. 6, allegedly by a suspected arsonist who is in custody, has been burning for more than a week and has prompted thousands of residents in Orange and Riverside counties to evacuate and forced the closure of a vital link between the two regions, Highway 74, also known as Ortega Highway.

Authorities have lifted some evacuation orders, but others remained in effect in Holy Jim, the Trabuco Canyon recreation residence tracts, the Blue Jay and Falcon campgrounds, El Cariso Village and Rancho Capistrano.

Dipping temperatures and forecasted monsoon conditions could continue helping the firefighters who are battling the fire. But high temperatures are expected to kick up again beginning Wednesday.

A smoke advisory issued by the South Coast Air Quality Management District remained in place on Tuesday, with the organization warning that air quality may continue to reach unhealthy levels or at least be worse than normal in areas impacted by smoke in parts of Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange counties.
