Pedestrian struck, killed by suspected DUI driver in Huntington Beach

A pedestrian was struck and killed in Huntington Beach Friday night by a man suspected of driving under the influence, police said.

The accident occurred at about 8:57 p.m., when the pedestrian entered the westbound lanes of Warner Ave. at Rotterdam Lane, Huntington Beach police said. The 54-year-old driver was in a black 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche heading west on Warner Ave.

The 51-year-old pedestrian was transported to UCI Medical Center, where he died.

The Chevrolet driver, who had remained at the scene, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

No further details were available, and no names have been released.
