Teenager killed in Santa Ana shooting; adults with him are questioned

A teenager was killed by gunfire in a residential neighborhood in Santa Ana early Thursday morning, Sept. 6, with officers questioning a man and a woman who were with him, police said.

The youth was found in the street in the 1000 block of West Richland Avenue, Santa Ana Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. He had a gunshot wound to his upper body and was pronounced dead at about 10 minutes after the initial shooting call at 1:18 a.m.

Residents reported hearing one gunshot at Richland Avenue and Shelton Street but didn’t witness the shooting.

“They were with him and are being questioned about their involvement,” Bertagna said of the adults.

A vehicle was found nearby that appears to have been involved in the crime.
