Homicide investigation launched into death of woman, 92, in Huntington Beach

A welfare check in Huntington Beach has resulted in a homicide investigation, police said Friday, Sept. 7.

Police were called to check on an elderly woman and found her dead in a residence in the 6800 block of Vista Del Sol Drive at about 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, according to a police spokeswoman. Investigators launched a suspicious death investigation and then announced Friday the death of Ruth Strange, 92, is being investigated as a homicide.

Police on Friday said they were seeking help from the public in obtaining information about the case; and Saturday police said no arrests had been made.

“Based on information developed at the scene, detectives initiated an investigation and have been working around the clock to locate evidence and more information about the incident. At this time, they are investigating the death as a homicide,” Huntington Beach police said in a statement on social media Friday. “This is an active investigation, and we are asking anyone with any information about this incident to contact the Huntington Beach Police Department.”
