Garden Grove police interrupt burglary in progress; 2 suspects arrested

Police in Garden Grove interrupted a burglary in progress and arrested two men on Monday, Sept. 10.

A homeowner living in the 12600 block of Jetty Street called police at about 2:49 p.m. while hiding from two men attempting to break into his home, according to a news release from the Garden Grove Police Department. Police said the victim managed to escape the house via his front door as the suspects came in through the back of the residence.

According to the release, police arrived within minutes of the report while both men were still in the home. It said they attempted to run from the residence when they noticed the presence of law enforcement. Officers had established a perimeter around the home and one suspect was immediately apprehended.

Garden Grove police then found the second suspect hiding behind shrubbery in a neighboring backyard with help from an Orange County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit, the release said. That man was treated by paramedics for a dog bite to the leg, then examined at a local hospital before both suspects booked at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of  residential burglary, according to the release.

The suspects were identified as Sergio Alexander Donan, 26, of Tustin and Carlos Daniel Lopez-Gamez, 22, of Anaheim in the department’s release. Detectives are investigating to see if they might be connected to other crimes. Anyone with information is urged to call the Garden Grove Police Department at (714)-741-5872.
