3 suspected car thieves injured after pursuit with Brea police

by in News

Three suspected thieves were injured in Brea after two jumped from a stolen pickup while a third remained inside as the vehicle struck a curb during a pursuit on Tuesday, Sept. 11, police said.

A bystander called police to report three women behaving erratically at Tamarack Park at about 7:15 p.m., said Sgt. Chris Haddad, a spokesman for the Brea Police Department. There, officers found a white GMC pickup truck that had been stolen out of Long Beach and observed three women enter the vehicle sometime before 7:45 p.m., Haddad said.

He said the truck sped away when officers attempted to pull the suspects over. Minutes later, the driver as well as the person sitting in the front passenger seat leaped from the moving vehicle while a third remained in the front middle seat, according to Haddad. The driverless pickup then struck a curb before rolling to a stop. Haddad said all three suspects sustained moderate injuries that prevented them from running away.

They were being treated at a local hospital Tuesday night and are expected to be face charges related to the theft of the pickup truck after they are discharged, according to Haddad. Further descriptions of the three women was not immediately available from authorities.
