by in News

A bank robber got away on an electric bike with about $8,000 from a Newport Beach heist on Thursday, March 7.

A man seen wearing sunglasses with a dark colored beanie and jacket entered the OneWest Bank, 3700 East Coast Highway, at about 3:48 p.m., according to a news release from the Newport Beach Police Department. It said he brandished a black semiautomatic handgun and demanded money from a teller.

The robber fled on a black electric bicycle. Police say he may have stuffed a pillow inside his shirt in an attempt to mask his identity.

No customers were inside during the robbery, which was captured on surveillance footage. No injuries were reported.
