by in News

Gusty winds and warmer weather are expected for the Southland this weekend, but meteorologists say the possibility of rain is still on the horizon.

“Models are looking pretty good here for the possibility of some rain moving in on Wednesday into Thursday of next week,” said Adam Roser, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

In the meantime, however, the NWS has issued a wind advisory for various portions of Southern California including Yorba Linda, Rancho Cucamonga, Corona, Fontana, Woodland Hills and Burbank that is set to expire at 1 p.m. Saturday.

“It will be especially gusty in the mountains and near passes,” Roser said adding that driving in some of those area could be dangerous especially for those driving high-profile vehicles such as SUVs.

The winds are expected to reach from 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph, strongest from the early morning to early afternoon hours across in areas from Malibu to the Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles County and the the Cajon and Banning passes in the Inland Empire.

Temperatures are expected to warm up for the weekend with cities including Norwalk, El Monte and Universal City seeing temperatures hitting highs in the mid 80s by Sunday. Temperatures will reach the upper 70s in Garden Grove, Redondo Beach, Riverside, Malibu and Irvine this weekend. Other cities in the Inland Empire, including Yucaipa, Hemet and Temecula will be slightly cooler with highs reaching the mid 70s by Sunday.
