Orange County skydiver dies near Perris Valley Airport

A skydiver from Orange County died Sunday near Perris Valley Airport when his parachute failed to open, authorities said.

Robert Davies, 65, of Lake Forest, was pronounced dead about 12 minutes after the 12:43 p.m. incident was reported at an empty field at 2901 Goetz Road, the Riverside County Coroner’s Office said. The area is south of the airport, a popular skydiving center.

Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies were called the scene on the report of an air emergency, deputies said Monday. The treated Davies at the scene, where he died. Witnesses said his parachute did not open, deputies said.
