A 77-year-old Hawaii resident died Monday night in an accident on the southbound 405 freeway in Long Beach after being ejected from a car that hit a curb, officials said.

Judith Blankenfeld of Hilo was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the freeway south of Lakewood Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol reported. The man driving the car, a  2018 Tesla, and a second passenger, both from San Clemente, suffered minor injuries.

Officials said the Tesla collided with a raised concrete curb at the end of the Lakewood Boulevard on-ramp. The car then went onto the right shoulder, striking an unoccupied 2011 Chevrolet, the CHP reported.

The collision with the Chevrolet tore a rear passenger door off the Tesla, causing Blankenfeld to be ejected onto the highway, where she was struck by another vehicle
