Suspect wounded, later arrested after robbery attempt at Riverside’s Galleria at Tyler parking lot

by in News

A suspect was wounded and later arrested after he confronted an off-duty sheriff’s deputy and his family in the parking lot of the Galleria at Tyler in Riverside and tried to rob them at gunpoint, police said Sunday.

Neither the deputy, whose agency was not immediately identified, nor his family, nor bystanders in the parking lot were injured in the 9:45 p.m. Saturday incident. The suspect fled in a vehicle after the gunfire, Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback said.

He showed up at a local hospital about 15 minute later with what Railsback described as a non-life threatening gunshot wound.  Officers also went to the hospital and confirmed he was the suspect in the robbery attempt and the deputy-involved shooting, Railsback said.

The suspect, whose identity was not immediately released, was medically cleared and has been arrested on suspicion of three counts of attempted robbery and use of firearm during the commission of a crime, Railsback said.
