Man killed in possible drive-by shooting in Santa Ana

A man was shot and killed in a possible drive-by shooting in front of a Santa Ana home early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Officers dispatched at 4:41 a.m. to the 500 block of East Pine Street found a man with a gunshot wound to the upper body, the Santa Ana Police Department reported.

About ten minutes later, paramedics arrived at the location and pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said. His identity was not immediately available.

Residents had reported hearing multiple gunshots and two cars driving away, said Santa Ana police Sgt. Sergio Gutierrez. He said there was no indication that the men got out of the vehicle when a suspect or suspects fired on the man.

Investigators are parsing the details from multiple statements, some of which are conflicting, Gutierrez said. They are investigating the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.
