Chain-reaction Hawaiian Gardens crash leaves 2 dead, 1 hospitalized
A chain-reaction crash involving three vehicles in Hawaiian Gardens early Sunday, Oct. 13, left two people dead and one person hospitalized.
The collision happened near the intersection of Pioneer Boulevard and Carson Street at about 2:35 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Carlos Girard said. Preliminary investigation suggests that an SUV slammed into a car, which led to another collision involving a third vehicle.
Occupants from the SUV and the car that initially collided sustained fatal injuries, Girard said. Both died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Their identities were not immediately released.
One person who was inside the third vehicle involved in the crash was taken to a hospital. Details regarding the severity of that person’s injuries were not publicly available Sunday afternoon.
The collision was under investigation. Authorities did not immediately find evidence suggesting that drugs or alcohol might have been a factor, Girard said.
