Update: Remains found under Santa Ana house determined to be from animal, not a human

by in News

Police and coroner officials were out at a four-plex in Santa Ana on Monday morning after workers found bones in the crawl space.

While coroner officials initially thought they were human bones, it was later determined they belonged to animal.

Authorities were called about 10 a.m. Sunday about the discovery at the home, at South Broadway and Bishop Street, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

“(The owners) are selling the four-plex and were doing work on the building itself … and the workers found them,” Bertagna said.

The bones were under the home in the crawl space.

Once the coroner was able to get to the bones, officials determined they belonged to an animal, possibly a dog, Bertagna said.

There are still people living in the complex.

Authorities determined there was no evidence of a crime and cleared the area, which had briefly prompted a road closure.
