Los Alamitos High evacuated while bomb squad investigates backpack
Los Alamitos High School was briefly evacuated Thursday morning while the bomb squad investigated an unclaimed backpack found on campus, authorities said.
A school resource officer was told about the backpack just after 8:30 a.m., Los Alamitos police said. Soon after the campus, at 3591 Cerritos Ave., was evacuated as a precaution.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad was evaluating the item and people were told to stay away from the campus area.
Shortly after 10 a.m. the squad “determined that the contents of the suspicious backpack were harmless.
The Orange County Sheriff bomb squad responded and determined that the contents of the suspicious backpack were harmless. A police search of the campus found no threats. At 10 AM Los Alamitos PD declared an all clear. Students returned to class.
