Bicyclist in grave condition following hit-and-run crash in Santa Ana; DUI a possibility

by in News

Investigators say alcohol may have played a role in a hit-and-run crash in Santa Ana early Sunday, Oct. 13, that left a bicyclist clinging to life.

Several callers notified authorities about the crash at Main Street and Warner Avenue at about 5:20 a.m., Santa Ana Police said in a news release. Responding officers encountered a male bicyclist in the intersection suffering from visible head trauma. He was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center, where he was listed in “extremely grave condition,” police said Sunday.

Preliminary evidence suggests he was traveling north on Main when he was struck by a vehicle that was moving west on Warner and fled the area, police said. The vehicle and its driver were sought by police, who were unable to release a description of either Sunday evening.

Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. Officials asked anyone who might have information relevant to investigators to call Santa Ana Police Cpl. Brett Nelson by dialing 714-245-8208.
