Bicyclist hit by big rig, pinned under front bumper

A bicyclist was taken to a hospital this morning after he was struck by a semi-truck at Kraemer Boulevard and the 91 freeway off-ramp, police said.

The accident occurred at 5:43 a.m. when the bicyclist was riding southbound along the west curb of Kraemer approaching the eastbound off-ramp of the 91 freeway, said Anaheim traffic investigator Rick Alexander.

The initial investigation revealed the semi-truck was stopped at the off-ramp. As the truck started to accelerate to make a right turn on Kraemer, the bicyclist peddled in front of it, Alexander said.

The bicyclist, who had no head lights, was struck and knocked onto the ground, Alexander said.

“A witness sees this happening and yells at the truck driver to stop, which he does,” Alexander said.

The bicyclist was pinned underneath the front bumper of the semi-truck, Alexander said.

He was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange with serious injuries.

The off-ramp was closed for nearly two hours during the investigation. Kraemer was also closed from La Palma Avenue to Frontera Street.
