Fatal wreck ties up morning commute

A fatal accident tied up traffic during the morning commute on eastbound Interstate 10 in Claremont, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

“The lanes are going to be closed (until) 7 or 7:30 a.m.,” Officer Steven Cuevas said from the Traffic Management Center in San Bernardino. “Right now, we’re looking at a backup (of) … about two miles.”

The wreck happened at 5:15 a.m. near Indian Hill Boulevard and involved at least three vehicles, according to the CHP website. The carpool lane and the three left lanes are closed, leaving only the slow lane open.

A medical evacuation helicopter landed on the freeway. And a SigAlert was issued at 5:41 a.m.
