Pedestrian hit by car ID’d

The Orange County coroner’s office has identified a Huntington Beach man who died after being struck by a car while crossing an intersection as Michael Talbutt.

At 3:54 p.m. Friday, 62-year-old Talbutt was struck by a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu traveling southbound on Newland Street as he crossed an intersection at Lomond Drive in Huntington Beach, police said.

Talbutt was severely injured in the collision and was taken to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, according to police. He was pronounced dead about a half hour later.

The 28-year-old driver of the Malibu, also a Huntington Beach resident, was not injured during the accident. Police have not released the name of the driver.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. The driver was not cited or arrested, and alcohol does not appear to have been factor, according to police.

Authorities are asking anyone who saw the accident to call accident investigator Robert Barr at 714-536-5666.
