Pit Bull traps family, bites deputy

A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was bitten by a dog Monday morning in Woodcrest while assisting county animal control officers, authorities said.

Deputy Steve Trotta said the dog, which appeared to be a pit bull, bit his arm after officers had snared it.

“It latched on pretty good,” Trotta said, adding that he received several puncture wounds to his forearm. The dog eventually released his arm and officers were able to capture it.

Trotta said he had been called out about 7:30 a.m. to help a family who couldn’t leave their home on the 19700 block of Mariposa Avenue near Barton Street because they said a vicious dog was outside.

He said another deputy had been called out the night before after this same dog got loose. The dog apparently belongs to a neighbor, Trotta said.
