Police looking for witnesses of fatal hit-and-run

“43-year-old man was struck by vehicle and driver fled scene, police said.”

Police are looking for the driver of a dark-blue vehicle who struck and killed a 43-year-old pedestrian.

The 43-year-old victim from Santa Ana was walking across the street about 11:30 p.m. Saturday near 2675 W. Cerritos Ave., near Sherril Street, when he was hit by a vehicle, Anaheim police Sgt. Tim Schmidt said. His identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives, he said.

Schmidt said that based on evidence recovered at the scene the vehicle who fatally struck the pedestrian was a dark-blue vehicle, which would have damage to the left front area. However, it’s not yet known if the vehicle was a sedan or a truck, he said.

Schmidt said the victim was found lying outside a crosswalk at the intersection of Cerritos Avenue and Sherril Street. The man was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange, Schmidt said.

The driver fled the scene. A passing motorist, who called police, was not identified and the person gave no identifying information on the victim or hit-and-run driver, Schmidt said. Police have so far found no witnesses to the accident.

Police ask that anyone with information call investigator Rick Alexander at 714-765-1861
