Woman who died after hit by car was walking to work

“Authorities investigating whether 64-year-old woman was walking in crosswalk when she was hit by car”

STANTON – A 64-year-old woman has died at a hospital after being hit by a car on Beach Boulevard on Thursday night, authorities said.

Family members identified the woman as Gail Connelle, an employee of a nearby Walgreens, who was on her way to work.

Connelle was crossing Beach Boulevard just north of Chapman Avenue at 10:54 p.m. said Lt. Ted Boyne of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

At the same time, a 65-year-old man was driving a Lexus north on Beach Boulevard.

Connelle had just been dropped off by a bus across the street from her job, said her brother Michael Caserta, of Garden Grove.

Connelle began crossing the street eastbound when she was hit by the Lexus, Boyne said.

Authorities are currently investigating whether Connelle was walking within the crosswalk when she was hit by the car, officials said.

“She always took extra care when she would come and go,” Caserta said. “I can’t imagine her trying to cross Beach Boulevard at that hour (outside the crosswalk).”

She suffered severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died a short time later, Boyne said.

No citations and no arrests have been made, Boyne said. The incident is still under investigation.
