About 8,000 people are expected to fill the arena of the Long Beach Convention Center Tuesday morning to honor the life of Capt. David Rosa, who was killed in the line of duty last week, officials said.

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. in the 13,500-seat arena following a 9 a.m. procession along Shoreline Drive escorting Rosa’s body to the Convention Center.

The memorial is open to the public and parking is available in three garages and a surface lot at the Convention Center at 300 E. Ocean Blvd.

Rosa, 45, was a 17-year veteran of the Long Beach Fire Department assigned to Fire Station No. 10. He was fatally shot while responding to an early morning explosio and a fire at the Covenant Manor senior living complex June 25.

In the past week, fire departments across the state and the nation have paid tribute to Rosa, a resident of San Juan Capistrano. He leaves behind his wife, Lynley, and sons Alec, 26, and Sam, 15.
