SUV plunges into Alamitos Bay in Long Beach; occupants uninjured

by in News

No one was injured Sunday when an SUV plunged backwards into Alamitos Bay while launching a boat, officials and witnesses said.

The black Lincoln Navigator was backing a large boat into the water from the Davies Harbor Launch Ramp before it ended up in the harbor, said Brian Fisk, a Long Beach Fire Department spokesman.

The two men in the vehicle were able to escape and get back to the shore safely, said Shaina Denny, a local resident who watched the accident from her apartment.

The SUV later became completely submerged. Scuba divers from the Los Angeles County Fire Department later came to inspect the vehicle to make sure no one was inside.

A tow truck was called to pull the SUV out of the water.
