Where Cranston fire evacuees can take their animals and livestock

by in News

Animal owners fleeing the fast-moving Cranston Fire near Idyllwild have several places to bring their pets and livestock.

The Riverside County Department of Animal Services’ San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus has begun accepting animals of all sizes, and staff is on hand with vaccinations and microchips, said agency spokesman John Welsh.

“We can take horses, pigs, goats, emus, llamas — any livestock, we can handle,” he said.

The campus is located at 581 S. Grand Ave. in San Jacinto.

Because of the emergency conditions, animal owners will not be charged for boarding and microchips, Welsh said.

“If the pet owner doesn’t have a chip, we can provide that and then it’s easy for us to return the animal if they’re evacuated from their home for a week or two,” he said.

Large animals can be dropped off at Dysart Equestrian Park, 2101 W. Victory Ave., Banning. Small animals also can be taken here, and will be transferred to the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus by Animal Services.

Small animals can also be taken to an evacuation center that has been set up at Banning High School at 100 W. Westward Ave. in Banning, officials said.

In Hemet, Kritters pet store at 1515 E. Florida Ave. is taking in everything from dogs, pigs and chickens, to reptiles and birds, but cannot accept horses, owners said. They asked animal owners to try and bring their own food.

Anyone interested is asked to contact the store via Facebook before dropping off animals.

Also in Hemet, the Therapeutic Horsemanship Equestrian Center at 27260 Girard Street is accepting livestock, horses and has room for recreational vehicles, said Executive Director Miguel Sarasa. Owners are encouraged to call ahead at 951-208-5205.

“We’re happy to help,” Sarasa said.

Residents can call 951-358-7329 for assistance with moving animals.
